The Perfect Mini Marriage

As the Sony PXW-FS5 continues to be extremely popular between cameramen due to its lightweight, sleek body, 4K shooting properties and since the further release of the PXW-FS5 MKII, Hawk-Woods have had numerous requests to design a V-Lok adaptor plate for the rear body of the Sony FS5 camera. Like Sony’s PXW-FS7 the PXW-FS5 also has no power outputs allowing users to power further accessories such as on-board Monitors and transmitters. This problem with the PXW-FS7 was solved by Hawk-Woods releasing an on-board V-Lok adaptor plate which provided 5x D-Tap outputs for accessory power which still proves to be popular to this day.

With this in mind, the Hawk-Woods engineers now with Mini V-Lok fittings in their armoury have designed a Mini V-Lok adaptor plate to fit directly into the rear of the PXW-FS5 camera. For the market place this is ideal timing as standard V-Lok fittings obscure the rear of the FS5 camera which in-turn defeats the object of the camera being a lightweight mobile camera.

The new VLM-FS5 adaptor plate connects directly into the rear battery compartment of the Sony FS5 camera and mechanically uses a BPU battery fitting to lock securely into place. Unlike standard V-Lok fittings the Mini V-Lok plate sits below Sony’s rear eye-piece and provides 2x 12v D-Tap outputs on the rear right of the plate. Power is provided via the Sony FS5’s DC Input which is hard wired into the VLM-FS5 adaptor plate.

This system really makes sense when used with any of the Hawk-woods Mini V-Lok battery range VL-M50, VL-M98 or VL-M150 as like the plate their low profile means they sit flush with the top of the VLM-FS5 adaptor plate below the eye-piece, making attaching and adding the battery an easy task. All Mini V-Lok batteries provide a further D-Tap output and runtimes are increased over the direct BPU batteries with the VL-M98 powering the camera alone for approx. 6 hours 30 minutes.
